These are the components which are going into to the new Windows 7 build.
Processor
I went for the 3.2GHz in the end. At this moment in time, the fastest Phenom II processor.
Motherboard
GigaByte GA-890FXA-UD5
Graphics Card
XFX ATI Radeon HD5770 XXX.
I discovered that this board was overclocked at the factory,
I wonder what it will be like when we install it, cannot wait.
Monitor
Acer T230HBM Touch Screen Monitor.
We are using at the moment on our XP system,
Cannot wait to try it on our new system with touch screen.
Keyboard/Mouse
Router
Buffalo Air Station WZR-HP G300 NH
An update to our current old router but this
one is 802.11n and we can also connect to
internet if our broadband goes down via a
3G modem.
Disc Drives
SeaGate Barracudas ( what else??)
Went with 3 x 1TB, 1 x 1.5TB and 1 x 2TB.
1.5TB split between W7 System and the other
partition strictly for Games software.
1TB for Digital Images, one each for personal
for Sharon and myself.
2TB strictly for backups of these other drives.
Memory
Crucial DDR3 8GB 2 x 4GB.
Went for Crucial because past experience proved
to us that other memory might fail, Crucial has never failed
on us. Also, only went for 8GB as memory is still a bit dear, when price
comes down, will buy another 8GB to take us up to full Compliment
of 16GB of memory.
DVD Drive
Went for a Blue Ray drive as we do not have a
Blue Ray player and also the discs can hold up to 50GB of data,
Ideal if we want to hold backups of lots of discs etc.
The Case
Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced.
Apart from looking “Cool” it also has a docking port on top for 1 Sata disc drive. Intend to get more
fans to ensure the system stays cool.
Sound Card
Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional
Decided to just get the card as could not see us using the front panel
and therefore would be just for show. The reason for choosing this card above
others is the fact that we both have their Zen X-Fi 2 mp3 player and were knocked out
by the quality of the sound.
Operating System
Chose Windows 7 as this new system needed a new
operating system to utilise all this new hardware.
Also, chose the 64 bit version (although the pack came
with both 32 and 64 bit versions) because I want to use the full
compliment of 16 GB of memory I intend to use once prices
settle down.
Drive Caddy
The reason I chose a disc caddy is because if heaven forbid
one of our drives fail I want to be able quickly to replace it
rather that opening the pc case and replacing the drive, convenience
and laziness I guess. Also, if at some point in time I wish to increase
the disc capacity it will be an easy way to do so.
