Before we start, a news update. It seems that the date for RC1 of Windows7 has now been put off until May this year, so I will have to keep a track of this.
Well, I promised pictures of Windows7 and here they are.
1. The Desktop
This is the desktop and you will see in the right hand lower corner, a little pointer. This is where your start up programs can be seen. Just click on the arrow and you will see them. To open one just click on it.
2. The desktop with taskbar.
Along the bottom you can see the taskbar. You can see that there are four programs running., Vuze, Firefox, Lightroom and Spotify.
Starting from the left is the new start button, and shows the same as in older windows. Next is Internet Explorer. The next is like folder view, where you might see open documents. You then just click on one to open it. I will try to get an example for you to explain better what I mean. Lastly, the right pointing arrow is Windows Media Player.
3. The Start Menu
This is how the new Start Menu looks when you click on the new Start button as seen previously.
4. The Start Menu, All Programs
In the previous picture you saw an entry for All Programs. In older versions of windows you had to click to show the programs. In Windows7 you just need to rest your mouse over it and it brings up the picture as shown. You then just navigate to the program you want to run.
5. The taskbar revisited.
In this picture you can see that I have rested the mouse over the firefox button as it is highlighted. When one rests one’s cursor over a program button, one sees a small picture of the program page. In this case it is the Daily Mail newspaper site. If one clicks on the picture one will go to that screen.
6. Devices and Printers
In picture 4 you saw Devices and printers. This is what it looks like when you click on it. As you can see, there is more than just printers.
7. Control Panel
In picture 4 you saw Control Panel, this is what it looks like when you open it, all nice and neat. You might notice something new under Network. We now have our Home group, which should make it a darn sight easier to network computers and devices.
8. Computer
This the computer screen. Notice the menu bar at the top. This is new and looks much neater.
9. Checking Memory
A new thing in Windows7 is the fact that windows can now check your memory for you. It does this by checking it out before the system loads.
10. Games
As you can see there are a few new ones but pinball is missing.
11. The Shutdown Menu
Clicking on the arrow at the side of Shut Down you see you are given options of what you wish to do other than shutting down the computer.
