Not in my name

Do you still get lots of scam email or email supposedly sent by you to you?

Apart from clicking on links in emails which you should never do unless you know for certain it is from a reputable source, do you ever stop and think about the address you are being directed to? A very simple thing to do is rest your mouse on the link and check at the bottom of the mail and you should see the real address? Are these the same, if not don’t click on the link. What this also will do is let the scammer know the email address is real and will be used.

Another way for rogues to get your email address and your friends is when you send emails. Do you put one or more contacts names in the To: box? Do you use the CC: box as well to put contacts names in? Either way can allow unscrupulous persons to hijack these names list and use them for scamming or worse. CC stands for Carbon Copy, just like using a typewriter and using carbon paper to make a copy. The third and best way is to always use the BCC: box instead. BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy which means what it says. No way can anyone see the names. We always use this method as we cherish and respect our family and friends and do not wish them to be scammed or worse. This is the safest way to send emails. If you ever get emails from me, you will not see the other names I sent it to and neither will anyone else.

To recap, if you send any emails, put and add the names to the BCC box only, do not use To: or CC:.
